Our faculty, staff, and vast network of partners in public health, business and industry, healthcare, and community engagement are here to help you gain skills and experience for a challenging and rewarding career in public health. The MCOHS offers MS, MPH and PhD degree programs. Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Occupational and Environmental Medicine Occupational Hygiene Occupational Injury Prevention Occupational Safety Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology The purpose of the OEE is to provide doctoral-level training to the next generation of public health scientists in academia, governmental agencies, private industry, and non-governmental organizations who will address emerging and re-emerging occupational health problems of working people in the United States and globally, and master’s level training to individuals who will practice in the occupational safety and health arena. Graduates of the program will have the knowledge and skills needed to identify the causes of occupational related diseases, and how to improve the overall health of working populations. LEARN MORE Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing The Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing (OEHN) program prepares future leaders dedicated to the health and safety of people at work, their families, and the general community environment. Graduates work in a variety of settings – business, industry, health care and public health – to develop, manage and evaluate health services, programs, and policies designed to promote health and prevent work-related injuries and disease. LEARN MORE Occupational and Environmental Medicine Occupational and Environmental Medicine The goal of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) Residency Training Program is to train physicians who will improve the health and safety of workers and be able to practice in a wide range of venues including government agencies, corporate health departments, clinical practice, or academia. LEARN MORE Occupational Hygiene Occupational Hygiene The Occupational Hygiene program focuses on the health and safety of people at work, the community at large, and the environment. Specific concerns are with the recognition, evaluation and control of potential workplace hazards, including chemical, physical and biological agents; and the potential health threats of these agents to the community and the environment. LEARN MORE Occupational Injury Prevention Occupational Injury Prevention Occupational Injury Prevention (OIP), in concert with programs in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing, and Industrial Hygiene, among others, is part of the nationally funded Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety. This program provides a multifaceted approach to advanced academic and research training, with a primary goal to prevent and control occupational injuries. LEARN MORE Occupational Safety Occupational Safety The Occupational Safety (OS) Training Program prepares safety professionals to be ready to respond to employee and organizational safety needs in both small and large companies, within a wide range of public, private, and governmental entities. The curriculum is an intensive training program focused on the application of established OSH principles to prevent, reduce or control a wide range of OSH hazards. The curricula ensure that students obtain the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to become occupational safety leaders. Required and elective courses focus on the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace hazards. LEARN MORE Tuition Assistance The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) provides stipend support and tuition reimbursement for eligible students enrolled in full-time programs of study. Students must be a U.S. citizen. International students are not eligible for a traineeship unless they have been admitted for permanent residency. This financial support is determined annually based on federal budget appropriations. LEARN MORE Research The goal of our Center is to address existing and emerging issues in occupational health and safety, and implement innovative strategies to meet the unique and diverse needs of our region through interdisciplinary research-to-practice, collaborations and partnerships, and a pilot projects research training program. Since 1977, the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety (MCOHS) Education and Research Center has served the Midwest region by offering graduate training programs, continuing education, research-to-practice, and outreach in the field of occupational health and safety.
