MCOHS addresses current and emerging issues in the occupational safety and health (OSH) sectors and cross-sectors identified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), including: OSH SECTORS Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing Construction Healthcare and Social Assistance Manufacturing Mining Oil and Gas Extraction Public Safety Services Transportation, Warehousing and Utilities Wholesale and Retail Trade MAKE A GIFT Make a gift to the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety Fund to provide supplementary support for programmatic needs, including student education and research activities. GIVE NOW Research to Practice The Research 2 Practice (r2p) initiative was established to ensure that research findings are transferred and translated into the workplace to prevent injury, illness, and fatalities. LEARN MORE Pilot Projects Grants ranging from $5,000 to a maximum of $20,000 are available to occupational health and safety (OHS) researchers in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. LEARN MORE Tuition Assistance The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) provides stipend support and tuition reimbursement for eligible students enrolled in full-time programs of study. Specific concerns are with the recognition, evaluation and control of potential workplace hazards, including chemical, physical and biological agents; and the potential health threats to the community and the environment. LEARN MORE Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing The Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing (OEHN) program prepares future leaders dedicated to the health and safety of people at work, their families, and the general community environment. Graduates work in a variety of settings – business, industry, health care and public health – to develop, manage and evaluate health services, programs, and policies designed to promote health and prevent work-related injuries and disease. LEARN MORE Occupational and Environmental Medicine Occupational and Environmental Medicine The goal of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) Residency Training Program is to train physicians who will improve the health and safety of workers and be able to practice in a wide range of venues including government agencies, corporate health departments, clinical practice, or academia. LEARN MORE Occupational Health Services Research and Policy Occupational Health Services Research and Policy The Occupational Health Services Research and Policy (OHSRP) training program is an innovative collaboration between the Division of Environmental Health Sciences (EnHS), and the Division of Health Policy and Management (HPM) in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. The program prepares researchers who will help meet the demand for more rigorous evaluation of workplace policies and programs designed to reduce the nation’s burden of occupational illness and injury and to protect and promote the well-bring of the American workforce. LEARN MORE Occupational Injury Prevention Occupational Injury Prevention Occupational Injury Prevention (OIP), in concert with programs in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Health Nursing, and Industrial Hygiene, among others, is part of the nationally funded Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety. This program provides a multifaceted approach to advanced academic and research training, with a primary goal to prevent and control occupational injuries. LEARN MORE Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology The purpose of the OEE is to provide doctoral-level training to the next generation of public health scientists in academia, governmental agencies, private industry, and non-governmental organizations who will address emerging and re-emerging occupational health problems of working people in the United States and globally, and master’s level training to individuals who will practice in the occupational safety and health arena. Graduates of the program will have the knowledge and skills needed to identify the causes of occupational related diseases, and how to improve the overall health of working populations.
